Green Garlic
We bought some garlic from the supermarket and didn't use it up quickly enough so it started to deteriorate. Not wanting to waste it, we separated the cloves and planted them in a pot on our deck. We were a little surprised that such lovely garlic plants grew.
We have been harvesting the immature garlic plants as we need them. The whole stalk of this green garlic can be used in place of mature garlic cloves. © www.exclusivelyfood.com.au

Great idea. I remember in Pamplona, Spain getting a special tortilla (Spanish omellete - not the wrap) filled with prawn and green garlic. Fantastic cold snack!
I have tried to do this before, but I had no luck, so I'm glad you girls did, now I can pick your brains!
How much sun did they have? How often did you water them? Did you grow them in potting mix/manure/compost etc?
My husband planted some garlic that had sprouted, in the potato patch. We let it grow into bulbs and it was the most moist, delicious garlic I have ever cooked with.
We planted the garlic cloves in a pot filled with potting mix. We live in a subtropical climate, and the plants received about 5-6 hours of sunshine per day. We watered them once or twice a week or when the potting mix dried out.
Isnt That Spring Onion?
Thats what I thought. Its definetely a spring onion.
Although green garlic stalks look similar to spring onions, they aren't the same. Please see this webpage for more information.
